John Fiore celebrates the DVD release of DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG from the Deutsche Oper Berlin

Naxos and the RBB has just released a DVD of Wagner’s DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG from the Deutsche Oper Berlin, conducted by John Fiore. The cast includes Klaus Florian Vogt as Walther von Stolzing, Heidi Stober as Eva, Johan Reuter as Hans Sachs, Philipp Jekal as Beckmesser, Albert Pesendorfer as Pogner, Ya-Chung Huang as David and Annika Schlicht as Magdalene. Also prominently featured are the Orchestra and Chorus of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The Gramophone writes in its review: “John Fiore steers the company’s orchestra – a classy outfit, with a pleasingly rounded, rich sound – through the Prelude. And throughout, the musical values of the performance prove high, with Fiore showing an excellent grasp of the work’s long paragraphs, pacing the score beautifully and proving alert – but never slave – to its bustling detail.”
